Tuscaloosa County Department of Human Resources (DHR) Details

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in Alabama is administered by the Food Assistance Division. Its purpose is to provide monthly benefits to low-income families/households so that they can purchase nutritious food at authorized grocery stores, farmers' markets and other retailers.

Individuals must apply for the SNAP program. An application must be filled out and all supporting documentation must be provided. When approved, SNAP benefits are issued monthly and put on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card, which looks just like a credit card. The benefit amount depends on number of individuals in household, income, expenses, and other factors pertinent to program guidelines.

System is flawed. And you wonder why people lie to get food stamps - you got to be on your deathbed with a hole dug to put you in before you can actually get foodstamps if you are a hard working individual going through a temporary situation. But those having 10 kids and don't work a bit can get stamps in about 1 second.
