    The Supplementary Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) is a federally funded program that provides nutritional assistance to millions of eligible low-income individuals and families.
    SNAP is the largest program in the national system of protection against hunger.

    The aim of the SNAP programmed is to help improve the health and well-being of households and low-income individuals by providing them with a means of meeting their nutritional needs.
    They are not intended to meet all the nutritional needs of a household or a natural person.
    The use of other resources such as food pantries and WIC, in addition to SNAP, will help to stretch household food budgets.

    People don't have to be miserable to qualify for SNAP benefits.
    People can be employed or have other types of income and continue to be entitled to benefits.
    In Oregon, the SNAP program is managed by the Department of Human Services.
    Eligibility and benefits are determined and provided through DHS and AAA offices throughout the state.

    Benefits are distributed through the government's Electronic Benefit Translation System, which allows people to access their benefits through the Tropical Oregon Card in grocery store vending machines.
