Marion County DHS-Family and Children's Services Details

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, formerly known as the food stamp program, provides monthly benefits that help low-income households buy the food they need for good health.
SNAP is a federal program administered locally by the Mississippi Department of Human Services.
At the national level, SNAP is the largest hunger safety net programmed in the country.
SNAP is intended to be a supplement to one's income to help ensure that nutritional needs are met.
The Mississippi people facing food insecurity are urged to apply for the program.
There is help for those who have difficulty putting food on the table.

Those who are eligible for SNAP are those who are:

  •  work on low wages
  • are unemployed or working part-time
  • receive TANF, SSI or other care payments
  • are elderly or disabled and live on a small income

Using a SNAP preselection tool, available through the Food and Nutrition Service, does not determine a home's eligibility for SNAP, but can be used to give you an idea of how eligibility is determined.
It is a way to provide benefits of the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program (SNAP) without paper coupons.
With a plastic card that acts as a debit card, customers can access their benefits on retail Point-of-Sale devices.
Each household receiving the Mississippi SNAP allowance will receive an EBT card.
