Houston County Human Services Details

SNAP, formerly known as Food Stamps, helps low-income Minnesotans get the food they need for nutritious and balanced meals.
The program provides support to stretch your budget.
It is not intended to meet all of your family's dietary needs.
If you are approved for SNAP, you can enjoy your benefits in many shops, farmers' markets and senior restaurants.

Eligibility Login and assets

The right to SNAP depends on your household income.
There are many income deductions that are allowed under snap.
A county employee can give you more information on income limits and deductions.
Families with an income of 165 per cent or less of the Federal Poverty Ordinance who have also received the information brochure on domestic violence  will not have an asset limit to determine benefits.
You can print out the brochure using the link provided or request it from your province or tribal agency (PDF).
Then, tell your county worker that you received the pamphlet.

This screening tool (PDF) asks you a few questions to help you figure out if you can qualify for snap.
The screening tool only assesses your suitability.
The only way to know for sure if you are eligible is to complete the application process.

You can quickly get a food allowance if your household meets one of the following criteria, even if you had SNAP in another state during the month of application:

Households with a monthly gross income of less than $150 and liquid assets of less than $100Migrant or seasonal farms that have low income and $100 or less in liquid assets in which total monthly gross income and liquid assets are less than their monthly housing costs and applicable standard utility deduction, if applicable.
Benefits.
The amount of benefits you receive depends on your income, expenses and the number of people in your household.
If approved for the program, you will receive an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card.
It's like a debit card.
Every month your benefits will be transferred to your EBT account.

In the course of the month you use your card to buy food at shops that display a poster or a sign with the text: "they accept EBT".
Supermarkets and convenience stores must sell a variety of foods to be approved to accept EBT.
The map can also be used at authorized locations for Meals on Wheels and congregate dining.
Many farmers' markets also accept EBT.
