Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program provides food assistance benefits that help low-income families buy the food they need for good health.
The amount of food aid benefits each household receives is based on the Thrifty Food Plan, a typical nutrition plan that the USDA uses to project the cost of food for one month for different household sizes.
According to SNAP rules, resources - such as bank accounts, real estate in kind, personal property, vehicles and so on - are considered to determine whether a family is eligible to obtain SNAP.
To qualify for this benefit scheme, you must be resident in Maine and belong to one of two groups: (1) persons with a current bank balance (savings and checks in total) of less than $2,001, or (2) persons with a current bank balance of less than $3,001 who share their household with a person or persons over the age of 60, or with a disabled person
