Individuals must apply for the SNAP program. Eligible individuals must pass income and assets tests. SNAP benefits are issued monthly via the Alaska Quest card, which looks just like a credit card. The benefit amount depends on number of individuals in household, income, expenses, and other factors pertinent to program guidelines.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Residency
  • Age and Relationship
  • Citizenship and Social Security Numbers
  • Work
  • Other factors

Special Note:

Alaska has special rules that allow for higher SNAP benefits in rural areas. Individuals may use the SNAP benefits to purchase certain hunting and fishing subsistence supplies. Contact the office for additional information.

I’m so very frustrated, I first dropped off my application for renewal December 2023 at the Wasilla public assistance office, when I hadn’t heard from them , I checked my status, information operator, stated the had not received my application even though I dropped it off at the office, I went in directly to the office and dropped off a 2nd one to a person working there, now all I want to do is talk to a social worker directly but was informed from the call taker at the call center “that they couldn’t connect me or contact the caseworker".
