    The Alaska Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as SNAP, provides monthly benefits to low-income families/households so that they can purchase nutritious food at authorized stores statewide.

    Individuals must apply for the SNAP program. Eligible individuals must pass income and assets tests. SNAP benefits are issued monthly via the Alaska Quest card, which looks just like a credit card. The benefit amount depends on number of individuals in household, income, expenses, and other factors pertinent to program guidelines.

    • Age and Relationship
    • Citizenship and Social Security Numbers
    • Work
    • Other factors


    Special Note:

    Alaska has special rules that allow for higher SNAP benefits in rural areas. Individuals may use the SNAP benefits to purchase certain hunting and fishing subsistence supplies. Contact the office for additional information.

    How long does it take for my application to get approved?

    Lately it seems like it doesn't matter how much you qualify for seeing as we are just left to fend for ourselves regardless of what we qualify for. Many of us are being faced with the choice of food or rent. Well it sucks to lose your home because you have to chose between food or rent.
