Upson County DFCS Details

The Georgia Food Stamp Program, which is the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, commonly known as SNAP, is part of a federal nutrition program that helps low-income households purchase nutritious food.

Individuals must apply for the program and provide all the required documentation. After the application is filed, the individual must have a telephone interview with a case manager and be prepared to answer questions related to the household situation.

The amount of benefit provided is based on income, resources and the number of individuals in the household. SNAP benefits are issued monthly on an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card. This EBT card can be used just like a debit card at authorized grocery stores and retailers.

SNAP benefits CAN be used to purchase:
Fruits and vegetables
Meat, poultry, and fish
Dairy products
Breads and cereals
Other foods such as snack foods and non-alcoholic beverages
Seeds and plants, which produce food for the household to eat

SNAP benefits CANNOT be used to purchase:
Beer, wine, liquor, cigarettes, or tobacco
Vitamins, medicines, and item that have a supplement facts label
Live animals (except shellfish, fish removed from water, and animals slaughtered prior to pick-up from the store)
Prepared Foods fit for immediate consumption
Hot foods
Any nonfood items such as:
    - Pet foods
    - Cleaning supplies, paper products, and other household supplies
    - Hygiene items, cosmetics

How are we supposed to get in touch w the caseworker if we run into a problem or if they never reply back after they stop our benefits simply bc they have no way to contact us. Both my sister and myself did our reviews and they sent letter but never called. You'd think they could text or something. Now they've reduced mine so low that I can't feed my kids much less myself. This is a pandemic and there are some less fortunate than other and something needs to be done instead of making someone wait a whole month. I thought they could issue emergency food-stamps.
