Huerfano County Department of Social Services Details

The Supplemental Food Assistance Program (SNAP), formally known as the Food Assistance Program in Colorado, helps low-income individuals and families purchase nutritious food. Those eligible for benefits can include families, children, individuals, elderly, immigrants, refugees, asylees, disabled individuals, the unemployed and underemployed as well as those experiencing homelessness.

Alcoholic beverages, tobacco, pet foods, paper products, household supplies, vitamins, medicines, hot food, ready to eat food, and live animals cannot be purchased with SNAP benefits. You can use SNAP benefits to purchase seeds and plants to produce food for household to eat.

The SNAP benefit amount provided is based on income, resources and the number of individuals in the household. Approved recipients receive the SNAP benefit through an EBT card, which is just like a debit card. EBT cards are accepted at participating food stores, markets, supermarkets, and other retailers.
