Choteau Field Office Details

The mission of the Human and Community Services Department of the Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services is to support the strengths of families and communities by promoting employment and providing the assistance necessary to help families and individuals to meet basic needs and get out of poverty.

The branch provides cash aid, employment training, additional food aid formerly food stamps Medicaid, childcare, meal reimbursement, food training, energy, meteorological and other services to help families get out of poverty and move to self-sufficiency.

The cash assistance is funded by a federal block grant called Temporary Assistance for Needy Families.
The program provides monthly payments to low-income families and children who meet the income and resource eligibility criteria.
The Work Readiness Component  provides employment and training services for people receiving financial support.

The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program SNAP, formerly the Food Stamp Program provides benefits to eligible families to supplement their food budget and increase their ability to purchase healthy foods.
A SNAP Nutrition Education, which operates in conjunction with Montana State University, teaches participants to use the benefits of their food stamp wisely.
